Sun Pillar above Alborz Mountains

Moments after the sun set above snow-covered Alborz Mountains of Iran, a pillar of light appears above the western horizon. The sun at the horizon display a collection of atmospheric events: bright sun pillar, 22-degree halo, and a pair of sundogs. Sun pillar is created by the reflection of sunlight from atmospheric ice crystals. It can also created by the moonlight or from terrestrial sources such as streetlights. Amir Abolfath -
