Fire Temple and Circumpolar Trails

By: Amir H. Abolfath

Region: Middle East

Site: Niasar - Iran

In an 3-hour circumpolar photo, stars trail around the North Celestial Pole. The small arc (but with the same angular degree) of Polaris is also recorded very close to the pole. The scene is captured above the ancient fire temple of Niasar in Iran, used for centuries by Zoroastrians. This is a night above Niasar, like half a million other nights ever since the establishment of this Zoroastrian temple in 4th century. See this scene in a time-lapse video. Amir Abolfath -
