Double Rainbow

By: Juan Carlos Casado

Region: Europe

Site: Barcelona - Spain

Few minutes before sunset a rare semicircular double rainbow shapes above the medieval church of Sant Miquel (XI century) in the province of Barcelona, Spain. The reddish color of the rainbow is due to sunlight, in which the atmosphere has absorbed the shorter wavelengths of visible light. On the left one can see a 5-meter observatory dome which houses a 40-cm telescope for astronomy outreach activities. Juan Carlos Casado/Starryearth.com.
